Arrival day! You'll be picked up from either Inverness Airport or Aviemore Rail Station and you'll get your first glimpse of the beautiful Highlands of Scotland! A short drive will land us at our 4 Bedroom House accommodation in the wonderful Boat of Garten. We'll head out on an easy walk in the Caledonian Pine Forest which may bring us our first wildlife of the trip with Red Squirrels, Woodpecker, Chaffinch and Roe Deer all potentially seen here
We're going to head deeper in to the Forest this morning, soaking in the glorious Scots Pines and all the wildlife that could come with it. Red Squirrels, Crested Tit and Crossbills are up for grabs. Around Lunch time we will head in to the bustling town of Aviemore for the chance to get something to eat/drink. This is the place to grab a souvenir to take back home with you! In the Afternoon we'll head over to an idyllic site that has the Eurasian Beaver - we can get an appreciation here for what a wonderful animal they truly are and see the work they've been putting in to change the landscape. As the night rolls in we'll head on a drive in search of Pine Marten using thermal technology to aid us.
Start this morning off slowly if you like or get out in to the Forest once again for more wildlife seeking action! Around mid-morning we'll head slightly up the Cairngorm Mountain where we'll join up with the Reindeer herders as they take us on a breathtaking walk through a valley and over a bridge before winding up at the Reindeer Enclosure, home to some 150 Reindeer! Here we'll enter the enclosure and you'll have the chance to feed them and really appreciate their velvety noses - they're adorable! Take as many photos/videos as you like, the Reindeer are super photogenic. For lunch we'll head to the charismatic Pine Marten Bar should you wish to grab anything to eat/drink. A Scottish Wildcat is known to frequent this area so you must keep your eyes peeled. We'll then take a stroll along the Glenmore river in search of the elusive Dipper. Bullfinch and Crossbills are likely. As darkness rolls in, we'll head back to the Beaver site with thermal technology in hand to get a potential glimpse at Beavers in action!
This morning is an exciting one as we're heading to a Red Squirrel Hide within the Forest! This will be a fantastic chance to see the adorable natives and snap some fabulous photos of them as they bounce around us. For lunch we'll head up to the Cairngorm Mountain cafe should you wish to grab something to eat/drink. Here we have the potential to see the UK's only resident Snow Buntings and if we're super lucky: Mountain Hare, Ptarmigan and Eagles. We may head out on a walk from here as well to potentially spot some Red Grouse hiding away! As the evening rolls in, we'll head to a special wildlife hide that primarily is for Badgers but Wood Mice and Pine Marten are occasionally spotted here and if we're super lucky, a Wildcat may walk through (keep your fingers crossed)
We're going to start this morning off at a site to photograph Crested Tit, this area has been crafted to give the best chance to get up close to them as they dart around the trees. Here you will need your wits about you and a long telephoto lens in order to capture them at their best! After a lunch break, we'll head to the picturesque 'Green Loch' - you'll want to stick this on your Instagram that's for sure!
Get yourself ready for a big day in the mountains! We're heading to Glenshee on the search for Mountain Hare, Red Grouse and Ptarmigan - if we're lucky, we'll get all 3! Other potential sightings could include Ravens, Peregrine Falcons and both White Tailed or Golden Eagles. We'll have a nice lunch in the Glenshee cafe once back down from the mountain and then we begin our journey back to the accommodation. We'll make a brief stop at a known Osprey nest to check if any late leavers are still hanging around before heading to a lovely restaurant for Dinner.
Departure day! After a full on week of wildlife shenanigans, we take 1 final Forest walk before heading to Aviemore Rail Station and/or Inverness Airport to say goodbye to the wonderful highlands of Scotland.
